Frequently Asked Questions

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q: “What kind of dance do you offer?”
We offer combination classes of tap/ballet for ages 3-5 and tap/jazz/ballet to ages 5-up.  We have Specialized Performance Company classes for ages 8-up including Lyrical, Hip Hop and Liturgical.
Q: “What ages do you teach?”
We teach age 3 through adult!  We can take students at 2 ½ but prefer they be potty trained.
Q: “What does my child need to wear?  Where do I find it?”
All dancers need a black leotard, pink tights.  Skirts are optional and may not go past dancer’s knees.  Shoes will vary for each age.  For example: younger tap dancers wear Mary Jane tap shoes with a buckle, older tappers wear the oxford tie tap shoes.  You may purchase all that is required at the dance studio.  Please contact us for a price list and proper shoes for each class.
Q: “Can my student still register?”
We always accept new students.  We do have a cut-off date for our Spring Recital.  This helps to ensure costumes are ordered in a timely manner as well as our dancers be comfortable with their routines.  Please contact us if you are wanting to register your student!
Q: “I missed the recital registration deadline, can my dancer still be in the show?”
Please contact us, as each situation is different.
Q: “How many sessions do you have a year?  When does your season start?”
We operate year round with our ‘new’ season starting in August and concluding with a Recital in May.  We offer summer classes and camps to keep our dancers strong in technique.
Q: “Can boys dance too?”
Yes! We would love to have you in our classes!
Q: “Do you have a recital?”
We offer 2 shows.  We have an informal show in December and an annual recital in April/May.
Q: “What is your situation on costumes?”
Each child will receive a costume for each style of dance she/he performs in the Spring Recital.  Please refer to Prices and Recital info page for more information.  The December Performance does not require a costume fee.  Due to the holiday theme, we ask that all dancers wear a Christmas outfit or their Sunday best to perform.
Q: “What is a recital fee?”
A recital fee is a set fee charged to each dancer’s family to avoid the selling of tickets at the December and Spring Recitals.  Instead of being forced to sell tickets for your child’s Recitals this fee gives you the opportunity to invite guests free of charge.
Q: “How do you decide class placement?”
We take age and ability into account when deciding to place dancers.  We look at their maturity in class, their technique level and knowledge of the material.  For new dancers, we try to place them in a class with others who are similar in age and go from there.
Q: “Do you offer private lessons?”
We offer private lessons for seniors who are performing solos in the recital.  We also offer private lessons for those struggling in a specific area on an ‘at need’ basis.  We prefer our dancers study in a class filled with other dancers rather than privately with only an instructor.  There is much to be said about training with your peers and we believe this will build each students’ confidence in dance and in life.
Q: “What is Performance Company?”
Performance Company is in addition to the Tap/Ballet/Jazz Combo class for 2nd grade-up.  This gives your child the opportunity to perform rather than compete in various venues throughout Chickasha and surrounding areas.  Please refer to Performance Company info page for more information.
Q: “What is the difference between Lyrical and Liturgical?”
Both are Performance Companies.  Liturgical simply means “public worship”.  It is our worship dancers who perform at churches throughout Chickasha and surrounding areas. Lyrical is a combination of jazz, contemporary, and ballet set to the lyrics of a song.
Q: “Where does Performance Company perform?”
We perform locally at events such as Rock Island Arts Festival or USAO basketball games.  We also perform in Oklahoma City at Thunder games and/or Energy Soccer games.  We love to perform, so please contact April if you have an event needing performers.
